Filmscreening ”Refugee for Lifetime” with Ali and Mo Kanaan
Thursday, February 8, 2018, 7 pm | Gallery Berlin-Baku
At 6.30 pm free guided tour through the exhibition "Where ART you from?"
Donations are welcome for admission
Ali Kanaan Mo Kanaan
In 2015, Berlin-based photographer Ali Kanaan and his brother, filmmaker Mo Kanaan, traveled to their birthplace, the Palestinian refugee camp "El Buss" in Lebanon. In dealing with their own decents, a thoughtful portrait of the fate of life paths has emerged. On this evening exclusive sections of the film documentary "Refugee for Lifetime" (Flüchtling auf Lebenszeit) will be shown, which will be published later on in this year.
The photographs and the film itself gives us an insight of the people of El Buss, some of them have lived there for generations and their identities are characterized by their innate refugee status. El Buss is one of the provisional refugee camps founded round 1935, which has become since 1948 a permanent home for millions of people for decades up to today. The personal stories of the residents about their current working and living situations, their individual view into the future or their memories of past times, allow us to take part in their everyday life for a fleeting moment.
Ali and Mo Kanaan, born in El Buss and raised in Mönchengladbach, live and work in Berlin.
