"A novel that almost bursts with the joy of storytelling. Intoxicating!” (Wienerin, 17.03.2017)

There are words we do not know. Their meaning, however, we guess. As if they had always been here. As if they have always lived inside us. And sometimes they finally want to be vocalized - as in the novel "Sechzehn Wörter" (sixteen words) by Nava Ebrahimi. It deals with hybrid identities and reveals cultural stereotypes in a touchingly humorous way.

Mona moved from Iran to Germany as a young girl. When her Iranian grandmother dies, Mona decides with a heavy heart to accompany her mother to Iran. She does not suspect that this journey will be a confrontation with her own identity and background, with many issues still sleeping in the unknown.

Nava Ebrahimi was born in Tehran in 1978 and came to Germany in the 1980s as a minor with her politically persecuted parents. In 2017, she received the debut prize of the Austrian Book Prize for "Sechzehn Wörter" (sixteen words).
